HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese Party and State always attach much importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership with Japan, and want to join hands with the East Asian country to deepen the bilateral relations for the benefit of their people and contributions to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world, a senior party official said on August 2.

Hosting a reception for Tokai Kisaburo, Chairman of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, and Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Lê Hoài Trung thanked the LDP, the Japanese Government, organisations and people for sending condolences over the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng.

The Japanese Prime Minister’s sending of former PM Suga Yoshihide as a special envoy leading a delegation of the Japanese Government to Việt Nam to pay tribute to Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng demonstrated the sound friendship and cooperation between the two parties and two nations as well as Japan’s respect for the late leader, he added.

Trung went on to speak highly of the Japanese Government and people’s support for Việt Nam during the nation’s renewal and socio-economic development over the past years, urging the two nations to enhance mutual understanding, and political trust through the exchange of visits across the channels of government, parliament and party.

The two sides should coordinate to effectively carry out the comprehensive strategic partnership, with Japan assisting Việt Nam in the process of industrialisation and modernisation, and promoting collaboration in the fields of economy-trade-investment, security-defense, and people-to-people exchange, he suggested, asking the Japanese side to continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese citizens in the country.

Kisaburo, for his part, hailed Việt Nam’s rapid development over the past years, stressing Japan sees Việt Nam as its important partner in the region, and is ready to help Việt Nam realise its target of becoming a high-income developed nation by 2045.

Japan is also willing to team up with Việt Nam in the domains of infrastructure development, science-technology, innovation, human resources training, digital transformation, green transition and semiconductors, and will provide new-generation ODA for the country to meet its sustainable development requirements, he added. — VNS
