The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max’s retention value surpassed all high-end Android phones in 2023.
The 256GB variant of the iPhone 15 Pro Max had the highest resale value ratio in 2023, only depreciating by 18.2% since its launch three months prior, according to the list of the top 15 value-retaining phones by SellCell, a leading U.S. phone trade-in.
The model is followed by the 256GB version of the iPhone 15, which devalued by 22% over the same period.
Other versions of the iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro, assumed most of the remaining spots on the list.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus 256GB and 512GB were the only Android phones to make it to the top 15.
They were the most value-retaining phones among Android models, yet they still lost 35.3% and 38.3% of their value three months post-launch, taking the 13th and 15th spots on the list, respectively.
Apple’s smartphones usually lose less value than most Android models because their user base is more loyal and their resale market is more active, according to PhoneArena, a website providing specialized information on new phones.
