A captain of an airline, along with his lover, were arrested for running a prostitution ring in HCMC that charged clients up to thousands of U.S. dollars.
Captain Nguyen Tran Cao Nguyen, his lover Nguyen Thi Ly, both 41, and Huynh Le Bao Yen, 29, another manager of the ring, were arrested by HCMC police on Sunday to be investigated for harboring prostitutes.
The police said the group chose female waitresses and employees at restaurants and karaoke parlors to provide prostitution services in luxury apartments.
Le Duy Sam, deputy head of the criminal police division, on Dec. 25 instructed officers to raid an apartment of a complex on Ton Duc Thang Street, where they found four pairs of men and women engaged in prostitution services.
The woman said they were aided by Nguyen and Ly to live at the apartments.
Ly said that after she closed down a restaurant on Nguyen Cong Tru Street, District 1, she cooperated with her lover, captain Nguyen, to run the prostitution ring.
They looked for young women as workers, and male customers. A session can cost from tens of millions of Vietnamese dong to thousands of U.S. dollars. (VND10 million = US$412)
Authorities accused Ly of having organized prostitution for many rich people and celebrities in several localities, including Hanoi, HCMC, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai and An Giang.
An investigation is ongoing.
