Dong Nai building new road to Long Thanh airport

The airport, which is still under construction, is set to eventually become the largest and most-heavily trafficked in all of Vietnam, according to project leaders.

Work on Provincial Road 770B will cost VND8 trillion (US$338 million) from the state budget and will open to the public early next year, reported the Dong Nai Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, which is managing the road’s construction.

The road will be 60 m wide with eight lanes and will run 43 km long through Dinh Quan, Thong Nhat, Cam My, Long Thanh districts and Long Thanh Town. At one end, it will meet National Highway 51 to Dong Nai with Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

The project will boost connectivity to and from the airport and one will also shorten the travel time between those localities and industrial parks, as well as the Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port Terminal in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, according to Dong Nai’s authorities.

The entire Long Thanh Airport is budgeted to cost around VND336.63 trillion.

Work on the airport began on Jan. 5 of 2021 after many years of preparations and lengthy land acquisitions.

The construction has been divided into three phases. The first includes the building of one runway and one terminal, expected to be completed in 2025, allowing the airport to handle 25 million passengers a year.

In the second phase, to be completed by 2035, another runway and terminal will be added, doubling the facility’s capacity to 50 million.

Other infrastructure will be built by 2050 in the third phase, when the capacity is expected to again double to 100 million passengers.
