Deputy public security minister Le Quoc Hung said the deadly attacks on two commune offices in Dak Lak Province last month were instructed from overseas.
At a National Assembly standing committee session on Wednesday, Hung, Deputy Minister of Public Security, said the attacks were “terrorist acts that aimed at the people’s authorities” and had the “instruction and support of hostile parties abroad.”
The ministry had utilized all its resources to arrest all suspects and seized all weapons involving the attacks.
Duong Thanh Binh, head of the People’s Aspirations Committee, said the attacks in the Central Highlands province on June 11 made people worried about the area’s security.
He proposed for there to be solutions to stabilize the situation and reassure the people to maintain security and order in Dak Lak and the Central Highlands.
Over 90 people have been arrested so far to be investigated for multiple charges, including terrorism. The political situation of Dak Lak and the Central Highlands has stabilized and people’s lives have returned to normal, the public security ministry said.
Armed groups attacked two People’s Committee offices that also house police offices in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes early on June 11, resulting in nine deaths. The Ministry of Public Security called the attacks “reckless, barbaric and inhumane.”
Among the arrested was a member of a U.S.-based organization, who had received instructions to infiltrate Vietnam and perform the attacks, according to official sources.
