Miss World Vietnam: Nothing wrong with beauty queens dating rich men

“People often portray relationships between beauty queens and rich men in a negative light, but I don’t think that’s necessarily true,” the 21-year-old reigning Miss World Vietnam tells VnExpress. “There are rich men who are upright and make the beauty queens fall for them.”

She adds that her belief does not mean she denies the existence of romantic relationships between beauty queens and non-wealthy suitors, as she is indeed in a relationship like that. Her boyfriend is a student the same age as her. She describes him as introverted, shy, and genuine. Nhi says she appreciates those traits, and that contributes to their long-lasting romance.

Nhi also speaks openly about her decision to disclose her romantic relationship during the 2023 Miss World Vietnam contest’s final night in the coastal city of Quy Nhon on July 22, which is considered unusual. She says that was actually a well-considered choice.

“I have no reason not to reveal my beautiful love story,” she says. “And I don’t want to hide anything from the public, who give me their interest and support.”

In addition, she believes publicizing her relationship helps her boyfriend feel more secure, which helps him understand her potentially tight schedule in the future.

The beauty contest winner continues by talking about the close bonds in her family. She shares that her family has always supported her in every aspect of her life, including her decision to compete in beauty pageants like Miss World Vietnam.

From her side, she has also been motivated and inspired by how strong her father is.

When asked about her plans for the future, Nhi says she will remind herself everyday to try to become a better version of herself, as she knows her responsibilities as a beauty pageant winner include setting a good example of an upright life for many young people.

She also wants to motivate fellow women to live with strong, confident, and independent attitudes.

Talking about whether she is worried about getting involved in controversies, Nhi says temptations exist everywhere: not only in the entertainment industry, but also in daily life. So she does not consider her choice of stepping into the industry something that makes her more exposed.

Additionally, she believes that her independence and determination will help her ability to avoid getting involved in controversies.

As an undergraduate student at a HCMC-based university, Nhi shares that she has a personal wish, which is to have enough time for her studies, her busy schedule, and her relationships.

“I will try to balance between my work and my studies,” she says. “I also hope my romantic relationship will last longer and always be as beautiful as it is now.”

Nhi finished as the runner-up of a beauty pageant for students in her hometown, the coastal province of Binh Dinh, before winning the 2023 Miss World Vietnam title. She will represent Vietnam to compete in the 2024 Miss World contest.
