Vietnam says US human rights report lacks objectivity

“Vietnam regrets to see the annual human rights report of the U.S. Department of State for 2022 has made comments that lack objectivity, based on inaccurate information, about Vietnam’s actual situation,” deputy spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said Thursday.

The 2022 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, announced by the U.S. state department on Monday, mentioned about Vietnam.

Hang said Vietnam’s consistent stance is to protect and bolster human rights.

“Fundamental human rights are recognized in Vietnam’s Constitution, are protected and promoted by both legal documents and actual practices,” she said.

Vietnam considers humans to be the central piece and driver of the country’s innovation and development, and strives to better people’s lives.

“Vietnam is always willing to exchange directly and openly, in the spirit of cooperation, with the U.S. on issues [where the two countries] have differences to promote understanding and contribute to the development of the two countries’ comprehensive partnership.”

In October 2022, Vietnam was voted into a seat at the U.N. Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term.
