Two die from suspected mouse trap electrocution

Locals at Truong Trung Commune found the bodies of Nguyen Minh Chien, 31, and Nguyen Van Chien, 23, next to each other on a field at around 7 a.m. Friday.

A police investigation revealed a handcrafted tool for electrocution at the scene.

“Maybe the two victims were trying to catch fish by electrocution, but they set off an electric mouse trap, leading to their deaths,” a Truong Trung official said.

The victims were found in a field owned by local man Nguyen Van Tinh, who has been using the land plot to plant crops for years. An electric mouse trap is present on the field, though it has not been confirmed when exactly the trap was set up.

Tinh has since been detained for the ongoing investigation.
