Man fined for riding horse in downtown HCMC

A man has been fined VND160,000 (US$6.74) for riding a horse in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 3 on Tuesday to advertise for a brand.

The 23-year-old wearing uniform of a ride-hailing firm rode the white horse on several streets, forcing drivers to pull their cars over to avoid hitting the animal.

Many people stopped on the street to take photos and videos of the scene, causing traffic disorder.

The man and the horse were stopped at the corner of Hai Ba Trung and Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street by traffic police.

He was then received the fine for two violations: “having animals trespass roads for motor vehicle” and “not having enough equipment to collect animal’s waste or not cleaning up animal’s waste on the street or sidewalk,” according to the city’s Traffic Police Department.

He told the police that he had rented the horse from a farm in Binh Chanh District.

He said he was riding the horse to promote for the ride-hailing firm.

The company yet said it does not have any policies to use horse riding for advertisement.

“This could be a spontaneous behavior of an individual or organization that is not related to the company,” a representative said.
