UK to release pedophile convict Gary Glitter early

The 78-year-old was jailed for attempted rape, unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, and four counts of indecent assault in 2015.

He is now set for release from prison “as early as next February,” according to The Sun newspaper, which cited a source from the U.K. Ministry of Justice.

“Sex offenders released from prison are closely monitored by both the police and the Probation Service and may be recalled to jail if they breach their strict license conditions,” the report said.

Londoner Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, achieved fame as a glam-pop-rock music star in the 70s and 80s. He’s sold more than 20 million records.

But the millionaire was convicted of possession of child pornography in 1999 and served four months in prison.

After his release, he moved to Vietnam, where he was then convicted of sexually abusing two girls, aged 10 and 11, in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, near Ho Chi Minh City.

As a known sex criminal, Glitter was then arrested in November 2005 at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCMC as he tried to leave the country. He was sentenced to three years in jail following a one-day trial in which he pleaded not guilty.

In August 2008, Vietnam released Glitter after nearly three years in prison.
