The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed letting workers enjoy a break of seven or nine days for the next Lunar New Year holiday.
In a proposal sent to collect opinions from relevant units, the ministry suggests that the holiday to welcome the upcoming Lunar New Year, the Year of the Cat, runs from Jan. 20-26, 2023, which means civil servants and public employees will have a seven-day Tet holiday; or from Jan. 21-29 to include two weekends.
The ministry has said it prefers the seven-day option, which will guarantee that the holiday will not last too long and the number of days off will be equal before and after the new Lunar New Year day, which will fall on Jan. 22.
After it collects the feedback, the ministry will submit the final plan to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Vietnam had a nine-day Tet break early this year that included two weekends.
