Vietnam tennis ace enters Bangkok Open final for first time

After defeating Dane Sweeny at the semifinal on Saturday, Ly Hoang Nam entered the final of the Challenger 50 Bangkok Open 2022 for the first time.

Nam won against Sweeny with 6-4, 6-7 and 6-3 sets. Australia’s Sweeny proved to be a troublesome opponent for Nam in the first set thanks to his speed and defensive capabilities, but his weakness was a lack of composure compared to Nam.

In the second set, the two players entered the tie-break, where Sweeny gained an edge by scoring four points consecutively and won 7-2.

In the third set, Nam ended it with a 2-1 victory.

His opponent in the final is Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama. By entering the finals, Nam, currently ranked 328th in ATP ranking, would almost certainly enter the top 300, his goal set for this year.

Previously, Nam defeated Dayne Kelly, Illya Marchenko and the tournament’s first seed Alastair Gray.

After great success on the ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour with four consecutive titles and one runner-up medal within just two months, Nam’s aim is to improve his ATP World Ranking in tournaments at a higher level.

Bangkok Open is a competition in the ATP Challenger Tour system with a prize pool of $37,520, which is much bigger than an ITF Men’s World Tennis tournament. The event is taking place from August 22 to 29.
