Some U.S. tour operators are impressed by Phu Quoc and promise to bring more Americans to the southern island.
Huseyin Ozyutcu of Picasso Travel said Phu Quoc with sandy beaches and high-end tourism services is worthy to being an international holiday paradise, Dai Doan Ket reported.
During his fam trip to the island on Thursday to explore post-pandemic tourism opportunities, he pledged to work with his Vietnamese counterparts to organize tours for American tourists.
Jason Ware, manager of travel agency Hopper, said he plans to launch a marketing campaign to promote Phu Quoc to American tourists.
Ware told Thanh Nien he has experienced a number of tourism and hotel services in Phu Quoc and noticed it has a lot of attractions for both adults and children.
Quang Xuan Lua, deputy director of the Kien Giang Province tourism department, called for the launch of direct flights between the U.S. and Phu Quoc.
According to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the U.S. sent the second highest number of visitors to Vietnam after the country reopened its borders post-Covid.
Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, has become a global destination after getting an international airport in 2012 and allowing 30-day visa-free entry for foreigners since 2014.
It received over five million visitors in 2019, the year before the pandemic began, including 541,600 foreigners.
