Ayustina triumphs in road individual time trial

HÀ NỘI — Cyclist Piriatna Delia Ayustina triumphed in the women’s road individual time trial category at the Games on May 20.

Ayustina of Indonesia took the lead after clocking a time of 40:08.44 and an average speed of 44.13km per hour. In March, the Indonesian cyclist claimed silver at the 2022 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Dushanbe in Tajikistan.

The silver went to Luo Yiweei of Singapore with a time of 40:47.05, while the bronze belonged to Thai Somrat Phetdarin with a time of 42:28.35.

Vietnamese cyclist Lâm Thị Kim Ngân finished eighth with a time of 43:56.41.

The women’s event attracted 11 cyclists in seven countries, competing in the 30km distance.

Cyclists started from Hòa Bình Square, went towards Quỳnh Lâm Overpass to National Highway 6, turned left towards Hà Nội, and then went on Hòa Bình – Hòa Lạc road and returned to Hòa Bình Square.

The weather was cool, so it was convenient for the athletes to perform. The average speed of the cyclists was 40km per hour.

Meanwhile, 14 athletes from eight countries took part in the men’s road individual time trial category. Việt Nam had two representatives Nguyễn Trường Tài and Nguyễn Tuấn Vũ.

With a strong sprint, the Thai cyclist Chawchiang Kwang Peerapol took the gold with a time of 48:32.404 and an average speed of 48.90km per hour.

Cahyadi Aiman of Indonesia brought home silver with a time of 48:37.90 and an average speed of 48.81km per hour. The bronze went to Rosly Muhammad Nur Aiman of Malaysia with a time of 48:58.54 with an average speed of 48.46km per hour.

Vietnamese cyclist Tài ranked fifth with a time of 50:33.20, while Vũ finished eighth in 51:30.35.

There are eight countries participating in cycling in the Games, with 260 athletes and coaches. There are seven international referees, 58 members of the organising board, and other national referees to manage the cycling.
