HCMC to set off fireworks for Reunification Day celebration

Fireworks will explode at two HCMC venues on the country’s Reunification Day April 30, marking the return of grand pyrotechnic displays in the city after more than a year.

High-altitude fireworks will be set off for 15 minutes from 9 p.m. on April 30 at the Thu Thiem Tunnel that links Districts 1 and 2 and the Dam Sen Park in District 11, Tran The Thuan, director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Vietnamese people will have four days off for the Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday (April 30 and May 1) as both fall on the weekend.

During last year’s Reunification Day holiday, city authorities scrapped fireworks shows and suspended crowded festivals as the country encountered the fourth coronavirus wave that has recorded over 10.3 million infections and 42,000 deaths so far.

There were no fireworks shows for the Lunar New Year in February 2021 and 2022, and the New Year 2022, as the city focused resources on fighting Covid-19.
