Conglomerate Imex Pan Pacific Group has apprised the Ministry of Transport about its interest in bidding for the contract to upgrade Phu Quoc International Airport.
Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, its chairman, said the company is seeking to bid for upgrading the international terminal, cargo facility and runway.
IPPG built the VND3.73-trillion ($163 million) international terminal at Cam Ranh airport in the central Khanh Hoa Province.
It has received approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to operate the country’s first cargo airline.
Many other private enterprises in Vietnam have also expressed interest to invest in other airports, including budget airline Vietjet, conglomerate Vingroup and Bamboo Airways owner FLC group.
Phu Quoc International Airport is operated by the Airports Corporation Of Vietnam.
It has one terminal with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers a year and can handle wide-body aircraft like Boeing 767 and Boeing 747-400.
One of Vietnam’s busiest airports, it received 3.7 million passengers in 2019, or 50 percent higher than its designed capacity.
