5,000 dignitaries across world gather for Prince Mateen of Brunei’s wedding

Time Magazine reports that attendees included members of royal families such as Malaysia’s King Abdullah and Queen Azizah, Bhutan’s King Jigme and Queen Jetsun Pema, Jordan’s Princess Noor Asem and her husband Amr Fareed Zaidan.

Political leaders including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. were also present.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed his joy on social media by sharing photos and extending congratulations to the couple.

“On behalf of the government and people of Singapore, I wish His Royal Highness Prince Mateen and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah much joy and success in their shared journey ahead!” he wrote on his Facebook page.

According to Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Saudi’s Princess Hanouf, Bahrain’s Prince Nasser, Jordan’s Princess Noor, and Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi from the Emirati royal family were also spotted at the event.

Prince Mateen, 32, son of Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, married 29-year-old Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah, a royal adviser’s granddaughter, in a 10-day celebration from Jan. 7 to Jan. 16.

The royal couple participated in various ceremonies, including the Khatam Quran event on Jan. 8, the Berbedak Mandi or powdering ceremony on Jan. 10, and the solemnization at Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque on Jan. 11.

As reported by CNN, the grand event reached a climax on Jan. 14 with a formal wedding, with Prince Mateen in a military uniform and his bride in a jewel-adorned white gown with a diamond tiara walking down the aisle.

Prince Mateen, a helicopter pilot and a major in the Royal Brunei Air Force, also represented Brunei in polo at the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games.

He was named among Asia’s top 50 most eligible bachelors by Hong Kong’s Tatler Magazine in 2016.

His royal bride is an alumna of the University of Bath and an entrepreneur.

She founded the fashion brand Silk Collective and co-founded the cultural experience tourism company Authentirary.

Her grandfather Pehin Dato Isa is the Sultan of Brunei’s special advisor and held significant roles in Brunei’s government in the 1960s and 1970s.

Her brother Danial Deen Isa-Kalebic is a close friend of Prince Mateen, and her sister-in-law Janetira Attaskulchai Deen belongs to the Attaskulchai family of Thailand, known for their Betagen yogurt empire.
