3 Koreans arrested for organizing gambling at Hanoi hotel


Three Korean managers of a gambling club in Hanoi were among 17 people arrested for gambling and organizing gambling activities.

The Ministry of Public Security on Wednesday announced the arrests of Cho Choon Keun, 51; Choi Jin Bok, 58; and Shim Hawn Hee, 28, for organizing gambling.

In addition to the Korean managers, Nguyen Dinh Lam, 70, vice director of the Viet Hai Dang Service Investment and Entertainment Company, and Phan Truong Giang, 52, branch director of the Overseas Vietnamese Business Club under the Viet Hai Dang company, were also arrested on similar charges.

Nine other individuals were detained for gambling.

The arrests followed a raid by the public security ministry, which caught the suspects in the act of organizing illegal gambling at the Hanoi branch of the Overseas Vietnamese Club – King Club, located on the first floor of the Pullman Hotel in Dong Da District.

In connection with the case, police also arrested Ho Dai Dung, 52, former chairman of the Phu Tho People’s Committee; Ngo Ngoc Duc, 50, former secretary of the Hoa Binh City Party Committee; and Truong Xuan Danh, 47, former vice general director of the Cienco 5 Land Development Company.

The investigation is ongoing.
