250 more flights to HCMC to meet post-Tet rise in travel demand

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has green-lighted the addition of 251 domestic flights to HCMC between February 7 and 10 amid a surge in post-Tet demand.

They include 48 from Hanoi and 43 from Da Nang, with the others being from Hai Phong, Hue, Chu Lai (Quang Nam), Thanh Hoa, and Vinh (Nghe An).

A Vietnam Airlines spokesperson said the carrier has added nearly 200 flights on 14 routes from Monday.

The nine-day Tet holidays ended on Sunday and millions of people are still returning to major cities to work and study, with HCMC arguably accounting for the largest numbers.

In the last few days there have not been enough flights to the city to meet the burgeoning demand.

The CAAV said 299,000 passengers went through the airport on Sunday, the last day of the Tet break, 73 percent higher than on the same day last year.
