World Cup qualifiers: Australia 2-0 Vietnam

Australia secured a 2-0 lead in the first half of their World Cup qualifier with Vietnam thanks to efforts by Jamie Maclaren and Tom Rogic.

For Australia, five players of the squad have just returned to the country and only have one day to train before the game, while key left-back Aziz Behich couldn’t fly to Melbourne from Turkey due to a snowstorm. But they are confident of beating Vietnam and have aimed to quickly secure a win.

Vietnam are the least experienced team in the final round of World Cup qualifiers. After six consecutive losses, they are at the bottom of group B with zero points.

Australia are third on the group with 11 points, behind Japan and Saudi Arabia.

In the first leg at My Dinh National Stadium, Australia won 1-0 with the only goal by Rhyan Grant.
