Woman scams $88,000 off 48 people with fake S.Korea employment promise

A Vietnamese woman has been detained for allegedly defrauding 48 people of VND2.2 billion ($87,870) by falsely promising them jobs in South Korea.

Le Thi Kim Quyen, 39, director of Jinju Education Company, was taken into custody on Wednesday by police in Hau Giang Province in southern Vietnam for suspected fraud.

Quyen, who previously lived in South Korea with her husband, returned to Vietnam in November last year and established Jinju Education Company. The company claimed to offer job placement services and labor recruitment.

Authorities allege that Quyen used social media to advertise procedures for sending Vietnamese workers to South Korea for employment and marriage, despite lacking the necessary approval and capability to deliver on these promises.

Between December last year and March this year, Quyen reportedly collected over VND2.2 billion from 48 individuals, promising to complete the procedures within four months. After she failed to deliver and closed down the company, the victims reported the scam to the police.
