A woman in southern Vietnam has been prosecuted for using the excuse of needing money to treat her daughter’s chronic diabetes, and making the girl, a virgin, have sex with a man for VND30 million (US$1,200).
The People’s Procuracy of Phu Nhuan District in Ho Chi Minh City has issued an indictment to prosecute the man, named Dung, 55, a district’s resident, for the crime of “engaging in prostitution with a person under 18” and the 47-year-old mother, named Kieu, a native of Hau Giang Province, for the crime of “prostitution brokerage.”
The indictment determined that Kieu had known Dung for many years.
In April last year, while she was taking care of her 14-year-old daughter, who suffers from chronic diabetes, at Children’s Hospital No.2 in HCMC, Dung visited and gave her some money.
During one of their conversations, Dung confided about his business difficulties.
Kieu suggested that he should have sex with a virgin to get better luck.
Later, she told Dung that she wanted him to take care of her daughter, implying that Dung could have sex with the girl, who was a virgin. Dung agreed.
A few weeks after that, she took the girl back to their hometown in Hau Giang and called Dung, asking for VND100 million as the price for her daughter’s virginity.
Dung said he did not have that much money.
Several days later, she called Dung again, lower the price to VND60 million. Dung offered VND30 million and she agreed.
She then told her daughter to have sex with Dung to earn money for her treatment. The girl had no choice but to do as her mother said.
Between August and December last year, Kieu took her daughter from Hau Giang to HCMC twice to sell sex to Dung.
Each time, she informed Dung in advance so that he would pay the bus ticket for her and her daughter.
The prostitution took place at a hotel in HCMC’s Phu Nhuan District both times.
In March this year, when meeting with her father at Children’s Hospital No.2 in HCMC for another treatment, the girl told her father the entire story.
Her father, who had divorced her mother and did not live with her by then, reported the case to the police.
Dung and Kieu later confessed to their crimes.
