VN-Index plunges after 7 rising sessions


Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index dropped 1.14% to 1,125.39 points Thursday, ending a seven-session gaining streak.

The index closed 12.96 points lower after gaining 4.02 points on Wednesday.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) fell by 3.25% to VND17.35 trillion ($736.06 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 27 tickers dropped.

SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation plunged 4.1%, followed by NVL of property developer Novaland Group with a 3.8% drop.

HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group lost 3% and PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development closed 2.9% lower.

Only two blue chips gained. VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk went up 1.8% and VCB of state-owned lender Vietcombank rose 0.8%.

Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND114.74 billion, mainly buying HPG and VNM.

The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, was down 1.20% while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market was down by 0.42%.
