Vietnamese automaker VinFast has partnered with the world’s leading electric car battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Company (CATL) in the development of equipment for its electric cars.
The two companies will collaborate on the production of battery and skateboard chassis, a system at the bottom of the vehicle on which battery packs and other critical units are placed, according to a memorandum signed Oct. 30 in Japan.
“Collaboration with CATL – a global leader of new energy innovative technologies – is the next development milestone of VinFast in applying advanced technology to enhance driving range and experience while offering competitive pricing, making smart electric vehicles more efficient and accessible to everyone,” said Vingroup vice chairwoman and VinFast Global CEO Le Thi Thu Thuy.
The signing ceremony was attended by Vingroup chairman Pham Nhat Vuong and founder and chairman Robin Zeng.
Vietnam’s first fully-fledged automaker VinFast plans to ship 5,000 electric vehicles to the U.S., Canada and Europe in early November and deliver them to customers the following month.
Earlier this year VinFast had said it would build a plant in North Carolina with an annual capacity of 150,000 EVs.
