The National Assembly Standing Committee has decided to convene the 8th extraordinary meeting of the 15th National Assembly in one day to consider personnel affairs.
The meeting will take place on Monday, Aug. 26, at the National Assembly House in Hanoi, according to a statement by the National Assembly’s General Secretary Bui Van Cuong issued Friday afternoon.
According to the Law on Organization of the National Assembly, the National Assembly elects positions within the state apparatus, including the chairperson of the National Assembly, its vice chairpersons, and the members of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly also elects the state president, vice president, chairperson of the Ethnic Council, and chairpersons of the National Assembly’s committees.
Upon the president’s recommendation, the National Assembly elects the prime minister, chief justice of the Supreme People’s Court, and head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.
Upon the NA Standing Committee’s recommendation, the National Assembly elects the chairperson of the National Election Council, the state auditor general, and the secretary-general of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly approves the prime minister’s proposal for appointing deputy prime ministers, ministers, and other government members based on the nomination list for each position.
The National Assembly convenes two regular sessions each year. An extraordinary session is convened if requested by the president, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the prime minister, or at least one-third of the total number of lawmakers.
The 15th National Assembly has held seven previous extraordinary meetings, including five to consider high-level personnel affairs.
