Vietnam’s Deputy PM dismissed from Party Central Committee


Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has been allowed to stop serving as Secretary of the Party Central Committee and a member of the Party Central Committee’s 13th tenure.

The decision was made at the Party Central Committee’s meeting in Hanoi on Saturday.

Based on a report of the Central Inspection Committee and a proposal of the Central Organizing Committee, the Party Central Committee found Khai had violated Party regulations in performing assigned duties and tasks, violating regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do, the responsibility to set an example, and regulations on preventing and combating corruption and negativity.

Being aware of his responsibility before the Party and the people, Khai filed a request to resign from his positions.

Khai, 60, from the southern province of Bac Lieu, is a member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committee; Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee; and a delegate to the 14th National Assembly.

He used to be an accountant at the Printing Production Science Union – LIKSIN in Ho Chi Minh City; an auditor and chief auditor at the State Audit Office of the southern region. In March 2007, he held the position of Deputy State Auditor General.

From March 2014, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee, before being elected Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, then Secretary of the Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee.

He became Government Inspector General in October 2017.

He has been a deputy prime minister since April 2021, was assigned to monitor and direct areas of the general economic sector such as financing, pricing, currency, banking, capital market, securities, forecasting and macroeconomic management policies, state budget expenditures.

At the Saturday meeting, the Party Central Committee also dissmissed Dang Quoc Khanh, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Party Committee of Quang Ninh Province; and Chau Van Lam, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tuyen Quang Province. They were also found to have violated the Party’s regulations and asked to resign.
