The average income of Vietnamese workers in the first half of 2024 was VND7.5 million (US$297) per month, up 7.4% or VND519,000 compared to the same period last year, said Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan.
Speaking at the ministry’s press conference on Tuesday, Hoan said that in the first half, the ministry proposed the Government issue a decree on adjusting monthly pensions, social insurance benefits and allowances.
He said during the period, the development of social insurance and unemployment insurance participants was promoted. The number of social insurance participants by the end of June 2024 was about 18.3 million, accounting for 39.05% of the working-age workforce, an increase of 1.16 million over the same period last year. Meanwhile, there were 14.2 million unemployment insurance participants, up 1.67% year-on-year.
As many as 466,000 people received unemployment benefits in H1, a decrease of 10.1% over the same period last year.
Hoan said that the ministry also continued to implement resolutions and directives on salary reform, building harmonious, stable and progressive labour relations.
The ministry effectively implemented policies for revolutionary contributors. The standard preferential allowance for revolutionary contributors increased by 35.7% from VND2.055 million to VND2.789 million.
