Vietnamese tourist killed by train in Sydney while retrieving shoe from rail tracks

According to reports from News.com.au, Tuyet Nguyen, 52, was fatally injured around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when she descended onto the tracks but could not return to the platform quickly enough to escape the approaching train.

The Daily Mail reported that train services between Campsie and Bankstown in Sydney’s inner west were halted as emergency crews worked to extricate Nguyen from under the train.

She was immediately transported by ambulance to St George Hospital, where she was declared deceased the following Wednesday morning.

The train driver involved in the accident tested negative in a breathalyzer test. The police are continuing their investigation, having interviewed witnesses and examined CCTV footage from the scene.

A spokesperson for Sydney Trains offered their heartfelt condolences, saying: “Sydney Trains extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the passenger who passed away yesterday.”

“This was a tragic and traumatic incident for all those involved,” the spokesperson continued. “We thank Sydney Trains staff, emergency services, and those who rendered assistance for their efforts.”

Family members indicated that Nguyen was visiting her sister in Australia, a journey she frequently made.
