Vietnamese rapper makes UK publication’s list of emerging artists for 2023

British entertainment publication NME has named Vietnamese rapper Seachains among 100 “essential new artists set to conquer 2023.”

“Seachains has perfected a mix of slick verses, erratic flows, punchy pop-punk riffs and snappy drums – which means he never fails to deliver a roaring good time,” an article published last week said.

With his catchy chorus, it believed, the 28-year-old rapper from Can Tho City would soon “elevate his status as South Asian rap’s next great hope.”

The NME 100 features rising artists from across the globe, including the U.S., Nigeria, China and South Korea.

NME said the artists in this list earned their place by “blazing new paths forward” and they are expected to deliver some of the most dynamic and boundary-pushing music in 2023.

Seachains, real name Huynh Long Hai, shot to fame by winning the second season of Rap Viet, a reality show that seeks to unearth talented rappers, in 2022.

He has since chalked up a list of hits.

His MV for “Slow Down” in 2018 got over 8.9 million YouTube views while his latest track, “Chuyen” in 2022, has topped 1.1 million.

The 2019 “Simple Love,” done in collaboration with local artists Obito, Davis and Lena, has garnered over 88 million views.
