Vietnamese people bid farewell to Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong

A large number of people entered the National Funeral Home in Hanoi to pay respects to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday afternoon as the ceremony was opened to civilians.

    Crowds of people gather at roads near National Funeral Home

    There’s an hour left before residents are allowed to enter the National Funeral Home at No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong to pay respect to Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, but the streets around the site have already been packed with people, mostly students, young people and those coming home from work.

    As people gathered during the rush hour, traffic police officers and local police forces were present for coordination.

    A delegation of high-ranking Lao leaders, led by Laos’ Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, attends the mourning and funeral ceremonies in Hanoi.

    Previously on July 19, the Chinese Party Central Committee sent its condolences upon hearing Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, saying that the Chinese Communist Party and people have lost a comrade, a brother and a friend.
