Vietnamese champ to fight Korean boxer to defend WBA Asia belt


Vietnamese Truong Dinh Hoang will fight South Korean Dae Hyun-baek to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia belt next month.

Hoang, 32, will defend his title at the “Lead: Born to Lead” tournament at Saigon Sports Club in Ho Chi Minh City on March 25.

Dae, 24, is a leading South Korean boxer with an impressive career of four wins and one loss since 2018.

Hoang made his professional debut by knocking out Thai boxer Arthit Bunphloeng in HCMC in May 2019 in a tournament of the WBA Asia Championship.

Five months later, he defeated Korean Lee Gyu Hyun in Hanoi to win the WBA Asia East super middleweight title.

In February 2020, he earned the WBA Asia title with a knockout victory against Thailand’s Yuttana Wongda in the Philippines.

He resumed his professional career after Covid-19 pause with a knockout victory against Indonesia’s Robert Kopa on September 29, 2022.

The WBA is one of four major boxing organizations along with the IBF, WBC and WBO. The WBA Asia Championship is one of the most prestigious boxing competitions on the continent.
