Vietnamese-American basketball player joins national squad

Vietnamese-American Christian Juzang will be a quality addition to the national basketball team at the upcoming SEA Games, expert commentators say.

The 27-year-old has the best profile among the Vietnamese origin players that are competing for the country. His mother is Vietnamese and his father of European and African descent. Juzang studied at the Havard University and played in the NCAA league – the highest level of competition for American students.

When Juzang arrived to play in the Vietnam national basketball league in 2020, he drew great attention from the fans. He proved himself in the first season with an average of 21.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. His conversion rate was also high at 42.4 percent in general and 29.5 percent for three-point shots.

However, when everything was going well, Juzang announced his return to the U.S. and didn’t play in the 2021 Vietnam Basketball Association league. At that point in time, the chance of him playing for Vietnam at the SEA Games 31 was nearly zero.

Earlier this month, rumors of Juzang returning to Vietnam and playing in the SEA Games 31 were treated as April Fools Day pranks.

When the General Department of Physical Education and Sports confirmed the information, Juzang had already obtained Vietnamese citizenship.

Juzang is considered one of the best combo-guard in VBA with comprehensive skills and great scoring abilities, and now he has a chance to prove himself in the national jersey fulfilling fans’ expectations.
