Vietnam to welcome 20,000 spectators for China clash

The upcoming World Cup qualifiers match between Vietnam and China will welcome 20,000 fans to the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.

For the February 1 match, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will allow half of the stadium’s capacity to be filled.

The VFF has submitted its proposal on hosting the match with spectators to Vietnam Sports Administration. However, Covid-19 developments in Hanoi will be a key factor in deciding whether the match will be held with or without spectators.

If the VFF’s proposal is approved, it will be the third consecutive home game that welcomes spectators. The previous matches with Japan and Saudi Arabia also allowed around 20,000 fans each into the stadium.

Before the China clash, Vietnam will play an away match with Australia on January 27.

The national team are set to return to training on January 13. There are many new faces in the 30 players that coach Park Hang-seo has called up.

Vietnam are at the bottom of group B after losing all six matches so far in their first ever final round of the World Cup qualifiers.
