Vietnam requires vaccinated entrants to take 3-day home quarantine

Fully vaccinated people or recovered Covid-19 patients entering Vietnam will get to skip seven-day centralized quarantine and only need to self-isolate for three days, the Health Ministry announced Thursday.

A guideline on Covid-19 prevention for entrants, which goes effective starting 2022, said all entrants must test negative for the coronavirus within 72 hours before arrival and install Vietnamese health declaration app PC-Covid for monitoring. The PRC test requirement would not be applied to children below two.

Those who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19 would only need to self-monitor their health for three days, either at home, hotels or other facilities.

They would be tested on the third day. If results return negative, they would only be required to monitor their health for the next 11 days, totaling to 14 days.

Fully vaccinated people and recovered cases must have relevant certificates to prove their status.

For people who have yet to be fully vaccinated, they would be quarantined at home or other facilities for seven days, then be tested on the 3rd and 7th day.

Entrants under 18, above 65, pregnant women and those with underlying conditions would be allowed to be isolated with caretakers. However, caretakers must either be fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19.

Foreign entrants will have to pay for their own tests, quarantine and Covid-19 treatment. They are recommended to take their own rapid test on the first day of arrival.

The government has approved the resumption of international flights between Vietnam and nine destinations that have managed high vaccination rates and good pandemic control on January 1.

They are San Francisco or Los Angeles (the U.S.), Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Vientiane (Laos), Beijing/Guangzhou (China), Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), and Taipei (Taiwan).

Vietnam grounded international flights in March last year, for a long time allowing in only its nationals, foreign experts, investors, and highly-skilled workers coming by special flights.
