Vietnamese outlet VMG Media has purchased the broadcasting rights for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
“This is the first time in history that the Vietnam women’s football team will compete at the World Cup. The national anthem of Vietnam will be sung at the tournament, and for all of us, it’s immense pride,” Vietnam women’s coach Mai Duc Chung said at a press conference to announce the broadcasting rights Thursday.
“The team promise to give the best in every game and show the spirit of Vietnamese people,” Chung added.
After a period of negotiation, VMG Media obtained the rights to broadcast the games on the Vietnam National Assembly TV channel.
VMG announced that it is also willing to grant permission to other outlets that want to broadcast the games.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand with the participation of 32 teams. Vietnam are in a difficult Group E with defending champions, the U.S., as well as the runners-up Netherlands and Portugal.
The team will go to Germany for training on June 5 to prepare for this tournament. They will play friendly matches with Eintracht Frankfurt on June 10, Short Mainz on June 15, and the Germany national women’s team on June 24. The squad will then go to Poland and play a friendly with their U23 team before going to New Zealand to get acquainted with the weather and the venues there.
Vietnam will play the opening match of the 2023 World Cup on July 22 against the U.S. They will then face Portugal on July 27 and the Netherlands on August 1.
