This is both Vietnam’s and Portugal’s first time at the Women’s World Cup. In their openers, Vietnam lost 0-3 to defending champions the U.S. while Portugal lost 0-1 to defending runner-ups Netherlands.

If Portugal want to advance, they need to win against Vietnam and then the U.S. in the next game. Before the match, Portugal head coach Francisco Neto did not hide the attention to go full offense on Vietnam in this match.

Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung said Vietnam can use counter-attacks to find scoring chances in the game.
