Vietnam has spent over $3.3 trillion to combat Covid-19: report

Vietnam has spent nearly VND79.7 trillion ($3.32 billion), to combat the coronavirus pandemic for the past two years, according to a recent government report.

Of this amount, about two-thirds or over VND51.22 trillion was spent in 2021 alone, according to the report submitted to the National Assembly to review government management of economic and social affairs.

Of this VND51.22 trillion, the Ministry of Health spent over VND8.8 trillion to buy Covid vaccines.

In 2021, Vietnam also received 95.08 million doses of vaccination from other countries or international organizations either free of charge or with partial sponsorships.

As for 2022, the government is continuing to manage over VND36.1 trillion to combat Covid-19. Roughly less than half of this amount is slated for vaccination procurement this year.

To save money, last year the central government also slashed at least half of its administrative costs in organizing conferences and work trips, and saved 10% in other typical regular expenses.
