Vietnam confirms 161,479 new Covid-19 cases


The Health Ministry announced 161,479 new domestic Covid-19 patients Friday, including over 52,000 cases detected on previous days but yet to be added to the national database.

Most of the new cases were detected in the northern province Hoa Binh, at 24,362 cases. It was followed by Bac Giang with 23,725 cases and Vinh Phuc with 13,261 cases.

The numbers in Hanoi and HCMC were 10,803 and 1,139 cases respectively.

The average number of new infections recorded in the past 7 days was 130,146 cases per day, down 27 percent compared to the average of the previous week.

On Friday, 51 Covid deaths were confirmed, pushing the death toll to 42,196, or 0.5 percent of the total infections.

So far, 79.5 percent of the population have received two vaccine doses.

In the latest wave that hit the country in late April, more than 8.7 million cases have been confirmed and over 5 million them have recovered.
