Coach Park Hang-seo dares Indonesia to deploy their best offense against Vietnam when the two teams meet in the next AFF Cup game on Wednesday.
“Compared to our last encounter in World Cup qualifiers, Indonesia have changed many players and become more robust and powerful. In their last two games with Laos and Cambodia, their attacking line has played well and they scored nine goals. I hope Indonesia will play attacking football like that when facing Vietnam. It’s good for us,” Park said on Tuesday.
Before the game, Indonesian media underestimated Vietnam’s defensive ability on the two flanks, but Park responded with a challenge.
“If they think we are weak on the flanks then they can attack there. We will wait,” he said.
Under Park Hang-seo’s stint, Vietnam have won every game against Indonesia, including two matches in SEA Games 2019 and two in the second round of World Cup qualifiers.
Indonesia head coach Shin Tae-yong and Park have met 10 times when both were still coaching clubs in South Korea, with Shin winning eight and drawing one. But when the two met again in World Cup qualifiers this year as national team coaches, Park’s Vietnam beat Shin’s Indonesia 4-0.
Park also reminded the defense to stay focused in this game.
“In the last two games, the defenders have made a few mistakes. Maybe their concentration was reduced. Although we haven’t conceded a goal, I have to remind them so they can play better in the upcoming game,” Park added.
Vietnam and Indonesia are both having six points and sharing the top of group B, therefore this clash will decide the early ticket to the next round.
The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. (Hanoi time) and will be reported live on VnExpress International.
