Vietnam club manager faces punishment for violations in V. League game

The V. League Organizing Committee has proposed disciplinary actions to be taken against technical director Tran Tien Dai of Cong An Ha Noi for his overreaction against a referee.

Dai, acting as the interim coach for CAHN’s home game against Binh Duong on Tuesday, received a direct red card in the 72nd minute due to his actions.

He rushed onto the field to protest when referee Nguyen Viet Duan penalized the host’s striker Jeferson for holding the ball after being pushed down by a Binh Duong player. Dai was verbally offensive against Duan, and approached to threaten him.

After being dismissed, he did not leave the technical area despite being repeatedly reminded by another referee. A few minutes later, Duan had to stop the match and make a direct request before Dai left for the stands. Here, Dai continued to give instructions through another member of the team, but this does not violate the rules.

The V-League organizing committee, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), deemed Dai’s behavior as offensive, causing a negative impact on the league’s image. They proposed that the Disciplinary Committee of Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) impose extra penalty on him in addition to the red card.

The committee said CAHN also violated the organization time for starting the match five minutes late.

VPF đề xuất phạt CLB Công an Hà Nội

Cong An Ha Noi’s technical director Tran Tien Dai is aggressive towards referee Nguyen Viet Duan in a club’s match against Binh Duong on Dec. 26, 2023.

This is the second time CAHN were proposed to be fined by VPF this season. Coach Gong Oh-kyun faced punishment for an altercation with Nam Dinh’s defender Tran Van Kien on the touchline.

The Korean coach escaped further punishment as the VFF Disciplinary Committee judged that him receiving a yellow card at the game was enough.

Gong signed a contract with the Hanoi club last month but he has been ousted for four consecutive losses at the V. League this season, leaving Dai to be the interim coach.

The club were said to have approach former Thailand national coach Mano Polking to replace Gong from January.
