Vietnam calls for dialogue, peace regarding Russia’s annexation of Ukrainian regions

Vietnam on Thursday called for all parties to resume dialogue and resolve conflicts through peaceful methods when asked to comment on Russia annexing four Ukrainian regions.

“Vietnam calls for all relevant parties to resume dialogues and resolve issues through peaceful methods in accordance with international law, especially the principle of respecting the sovereignty of nations,” spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said at a regular press meet.

Vietnam continues to closely follow the developments of conflicts in Ukraine, she added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday completed paperwork for the annexation of four Ukrainian regions: the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR), Kherson region and Zaporizhzhia region, Reuters reported. The annexations were declared after Russia held what it called referendums in occupied areas of Ukraine, it added.

Western governments and Kyiv said the votes breached international law and were coercive and non-representative.
