Vietnam appoints new chief prosecutor


Nguyen Huy Tien, Permanent Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam, was elected by the National Assembly as Chief Procurator of the Supreme People’s Procuracy on Monday.

Tien succeeds Le Minh Tri, who was elected by the NA as Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court the same day.

Nguyen Huy Tien, 56, has had a career closely associated with the prosecution sector.

In 2013, while serving as chief of the practice of public prosecution and appellate supervision office in Hanoi under the Supreme People’s Procuracy, he was appointed as Chief Procurator of the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Procuracy. Two years later, he became Chief Procurator of the High People’s Procuracy in Hanoi.

In April 2017, Tien was appointed Director of the Department for Public Prosecution and Supervision over Investigation of Corruption and Position-Related Crimes under the Supreme People’s Procuracy. From September 2018, he served as Deputy Chief Procurator of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

He is also the Chairman of the Council for the Selection of Investigators at the Supreme People’s Procuracy.
