HÀ NỘI – With 166,968 new infections were announced on Sunday, Việt Nam’s total COVID-19 caseload has reached six million, as the total number of vaccines administered nationwide crosses the 200 million mark.
Just four days ago the total number of COVID cases in the country hit five million.
A total of 200,179,247 vaccine shots have been administered, putting second-dose coverage at over 90 per cent in 62 of 63 cities and provinces.
This figure includes the 17,046,042 doses that were administered to children aged 12 to 17.
The COVID cases announced on Sunday brings Việt Nam’s total number of infections to 6,112,648.
The capital city of Hà Nội continued to record the highest number of infections with 29,269.
The other cases were found in Nghệ An (10,243), Đắk Lắk (7,569), Phú Thọ (6,534), Bắc Ninh (6,417), Lạng Sơn (4,816), Hưng Yên (4,599), Sơn La (4,538), Hải Dương (4,406), Hòa Bình (4,337), Lào Cai (3,921), Tuyên Quang (3,696), Nam Định (3,379), Điện Biên (3,320), Quảng Bình (3,271), Bến Tre (3,059), Quảng Ninh (2,990), Vĩnh Phúc (2,987), Cà Mau (2,972), Bắc Giang (2,853), Bình Dương (2,851), Quảng Trị (2,793), Thái Bình (2,781), Thái Nguyên (2,738), Bình Định (2,424), Ninh Bình (2,379), Hà Nam (2,317), Yên Bái (2,281), Bình Phước (2,273), Cao Bằng (2,259), HCM City (2,257), Lai Châu (2,148), Hà Giang (1,911), Lâm Đồng (1,877), Hải Phòng (1,593), Đắk Nông (1,578), Bắc Kạn (1,394), Phú Yên (1,378), Đà Nẵng (1,338), Vĩnh Long (1,285), Thanh Hóa (1,210), Khánh Hòa (1,188), Tây Ninh (1,078), Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu (1,059), Trà Vinh (1,047), Hà Tĩnh (896), Bình Thuận (855), Quảng Ngãi (509), Kon Tum (401), Quảng Nam (332), Bạc Liêu (314), Đồng Nai (170), Long An (168), Cần Thơ (133), Thừa Thiên-Huế (129), An Giang (123), Kiên Giang (111), Đồng Tháp (70), Sóc Trăng (41), Hậu Giang (40), Tiền Giang (27), and Ninh Thuận (21).
Bắc Giang Province registered an additional 42,533 infections recorded in previous days.
Among the new cases, 15 were imported and the rest were local transmissions. A total of 100,536 new infections were detected in the community.
There were also 95 more COVID-19 related deaths reported. They were in Hà Nội (12), Quảng Nam (11), Bình Định (5), Đà Nẵng (5), Quảng Ninh (5), Bắc Giang (4), Đắk Lắk (4), Nam Định (4), Phú Thọ (4), Cà Mau (3), Hải Dương (3), Kiên Giang (3), Vĩnh Long (3), An Giang (2), Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu (2), Bến Tre (2), Cần Thơ (2), Đồng Nai (2), Hà Nam (2), HCM City (2), Hậu Giang (2), Bạc Liêu (1), Bắc Ninh (1), Bình Dương (1), Bình Thuận (1), Đắk Nông (1), Đồng Tháp (1), Hải Phòng (1), Lào Cai (1), Ninh Bình (1), Phú Yên (1), Thái Nguyên (1), Thanh Hóa (1), and Tuyên Quang (1).
The number of deaths in Bình Định, Đắk Lắk, and Nam Định provinces includes data from the previous day.
The death toll from COVID-19 in Việt Nam now stands at 41,385, accounting for 0.7 per cent of all cases.
More than 4,100 patients nationwide are in serious condition, with 316 requiring invasive ventilation and four on life support.
