BẾN TRE — Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân and a working delegation on January 25 visited and presented gifts to social policy beneficiaries living in disadvantageous circumstances, poor and near-poor households, and disadvantaged workers and children in the Mekong Delta province of Bến Tre as the Lunar New Year (Tết) Festival is nearing.
Accordingly, Xuân gave 200 gifts to social policy beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households, 200 to disadvantaged workers and 200 to targeted children, with a total value of VNĐ700 million (US$28,400). She also handed over the token of 10 great unity houses totalling VNĐ500 million to the province.
On this occasion, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children donated VNĐ200 million to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The Vice President asked the Party Committee, People’s Committee and people of Bến Tre to continue investing in cultural, social, medical and educational facilities, and ensuring social welfare for local people, especially in remote areas and former revolutionary bases.
Nguyễn Thị Hồng Nhung, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bến Tre, said that as of late 2023, the province had recorded 21,124 poor and near-poor households, and nearly 5,000 families of policy beneficiaries living in difficult circumstances.

On the same day, the Vice President visited and extended her Tết greetings to Heroic Mother Đỗ Thị Phiêm in Thành Phủ Đổng commune, whose husband and two children sacrificed in the resistance war against the US imperialists. — VNS
