A 30-year-old man in central Vietnam killed his five-year-old daughter by throwing her into a river while in conflict with his wife.
Tran Van Vien admitted to police in Quang Nam Province that he had drowned his daughter in revenge against his wife as he believed that she was having an affair.

Both Vien and his wife are residents of Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province.
In 2018, when their daughter turned one, the couple sent the girl to Vien’s parents-in-law and migrated to Ho Chi Minh City to work.
During the latest Covid-19 outbreak in the city, they both lost their jobs and returned to their hometown.
In January, the factory where Vien’s wife formerly worked resumed operation after the outbreak was brought under control.
After his wife got her job back, Vien found work as a fisherman at home while their daughter remained with her grandparents.
On Wednesday evening, believing his wife was cheating on him after failing to reach her, he visited his parents-in-law for “questioning,” Vien told police.
He then took his daughter and threw her into a local river.
Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, he returned to his mother’s house where he admitted to his actions.
When his family filed a report, police, soldiers, border guards, and local residents launched a search for the girl.

Authorities confirmed early Thursday they had found her body.
Vien’s family confirmed he often quarreled with his wife, got drunk, and smashed household items.
He is currently under arrest.
