Unknown soldiers laid to rest in Vietnam cemetery

The remains of 108 unidentified soldiers who died in both Vietnam and Cambodia were buried at a cemetery in southern Mekong Delta border province of An Giang on Tuesday.

The remains were found and retrieved by An Giang military units throughout the 2022-2023 dry season.

Of the 108 comrades buried in An Giang’s Tinh Bien Town, 89 died in Cambodia and 19 died in An Giang. All of them remain unidentified.

At the soldiers’ mass funeral, Nguyen Thanh Binh, chairman of the An Giang People’s Committee, expressed his gratitude for the unknown soldiers’ sacrifice.

He added that the search for the remains of fallen soldiers is the duty of today’s generation.

“Even though we have yet to identify the soldiers’ identities and hometowns, Party officials, soldiers and the people of An Giang will take care of their graves in place of their families,” he said.
