HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Transport has just set up three special teams for inspection of transport activities ahead of the upcoming Tết (Lunar New Year) holidays.

The first team is headed by a deputy minister and representatives from the ministry’s Transport Department, Traffic Safety Department, the inspectorate, the National Committee of Traffic Safety, the Department of Transport Healthcare and the Directorate for Roads of Việt Nam.

The team will inspect departments of transport, railway stations, ports, wharves and transport facilities in Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, Đồng Nai Province, Bình Dương Province and HCM City.

The second team is led by the ministry’s Transport Department. It is designated to check transport facilities in the provinces of Hòa Bình, Sơn La, Bắc Kạn, Cao Bằng, Điện Biên, Quảng Ngãi and Kiên Giang.

The third team will be made of representatives from the Directorate for Roads of Việt Nam, city and provincial transport departments and other relevant agencies.

The teams’ inspections aim to well meet people’s travel demand and goods transport as well as ensure traffic safety and prevent the COVID-19 from spreading before and during Tết.

The ministry also asked the teams to inspect transport activities to avoid lack of transport means serving those who want to return to their home towns for Tết holiday, and to discover unregulated increase of fares, and delays and postponements of flights.

Meanwhile, transport businesses are requested to develop transport service plans to limit traffic jams and ensure COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures.

Earlier this week, the Inspectorate of the Hà Nội Transport Department mobilised a force of 116 members and set up 44 checkpoints in 30 districts and bus stations to regulate traffic for Tết.

These staff are responsible for coordinating with traffic police to ensure traffic safety and avoid jams in rush hours.

The department has also arranged forces at bus stations and roads around bus stations to strengthen the handling of violations in passenger transport activities including parking, and picking up and dropping off passengers in unsuitable areas. — VnExpress News
