A tourist fell into the sea from the prow of a boat in Ha Long Bay and drowned last weekend.
The tourist boat Long Giang 68 was on a tour of the bay with 15 tourists on Saturday afternoon when Nguyen Ngoc Phat, 43, a visitor from the southern Can Tho City, stood on the prow.
As it was about to approach the Ha Long International Cruise Port, he fell into the water. Others on board threw lifebuoys into the water but to no avail.
At around 9 p.m. that day rescuers found his body.
The police are investigating and the boat’s license has temporarily been revoked.
Ha Long Bay in the northern Quang Ninh Province is one of Vietnam’s top tourist attractions.
In 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic began, it attracted 4.4 million visitors, including 2.9 million foreigners.
