A man rushed into the Saigon River to save a mother and her child, and two others jumped in and helped, pulling them all safely to the bank.
A girl slipped and fell into a section of the Saigon River in Binh Duong Province while playing in the area at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
The mother immediately jumped into the river though she could not swim, leaving both overwhelmed by the water.
A man rushed to save them, but due to the strong current, could not bring them to the shore, leaving all three struggling around 15 m from the river bank.
Seeing what was happening, Au Van Tuan, 21, a street vendor, and Nguyen Anh Du, 20, a passer-by, jumped into the river to help.
Tuan saved the man and the girl while Du saved the mother.

“When seeing the three of them calling for help, I did not think but just jumped into the water,” Tuan said.
Du said he saw a crowd gathering by the river bank and stopped to see what was happening out of curiosity. When seeing a man and a girl had been saved but the woman was being pulled away, his first thought was to jump in and help her.
All were left exhausted but have now recovered.
