Three people were killed after their rented house on Dinh Cong Thuong Street in Hanoi’s Hoang Mai District caught fire on Monday night.
Le Tuan Phuong, a witness, said he was in his house in the same neighborhood when he heard a big blast and the voice of people crying out for each other at around 9 p.m. on Monday.
“I rushed to the rooftop of my house and saw a house in Alley No.79 burst into flame. Many people came and tried to extinguish the fire with water but all attempts failed. The fire was about 10 meters high,” said Phuong.
Around a dozen of firefighters and police officers were sent to the scene.
They put off the fire at 10:20 p.m. and found three bodies inside.
At 0:30 on Tuesday, all bodies were taken out of the house.
According to the police, two of the victims are a married couple aged 27. Both of them reside in Yen Thuy District of Hoa Binh Province, a neighbor of Hanoi. The third victim has not been identified.
The house on fire was around 10 square meters and covered with fiber cement sheets on the roof. At the scene, police collected two burned motorbikes and a 12-kilo gas cylinder.
The cause of the fire has yet to be identified but investigators said it might be the gas cylinder explosion.
